Guyana Amazon Warriors won the toss and elected to bat first. The decision backfired as they lost wickets at regular intervals and collapsed to 78/5.

However, things completely changed for Guyana Amazon Warriors with the arrival of Romario Shepherd in the middle. The West Indies powerhouse instantly switched on his beast mode and played an attacking brand of cricket from ball one.

Romario Shepherd launched a brutal attack on St Lucia Kings bowlers and built a solid 102-run partnership in 42 balls with Iftikhar Ahmed.

The swashbuckling West Indies all-rounder's best was seen in the 15th over, which was bowled by Oshane Thomas as he registered 22 runs in a single legal delivery.

Thomas had a terrible time with the ball as he had to bowl the third delivery five times, starting with a no-ball. The sequence of scores read - 1nb, 1w, 7nb, 7nb, 6 - which means 22 runs were scored off just one legal delivery. Daren Sammy and David Wiese were left fuming seeing Thomas being punished.

Meanwhile, Shepherd finished his innings with an unbeaten 73 runs off 34 balls, 5 fours and 7 sixes to steer his team to a total of 202/6

The way Shepherd played, one of the best innings I have seen - Imran Tahir

Speaking after his team's 4-wicket defeat, Guyana Amazon Warriors captain Imran Tahir said that the loss of early wickets hurt them badly, but he showered rich praise on Romario Shepherd and labelled his knock as one of the best he has seen. He elaborated:

"(What went wrong) I think we lost early wickets and that was one of the things I can point out. The way Shepherd played, one of the best innings I have seen. We knew the pitch is good. We wanted to put runs on the board and defend it. Sometimes, you have to give credit to the opposition (for playing how they did and chasing it).

"It was a good score. If we did not lose early wickets, we should have got 240-250 (with our combination). With our bowling, 200, any day, I would have taken it but we did not bowl well and sometimes, you have to take it on the chin. Making batters to play to one area (and we were not able to do it), that is one area (where we made a mistake).

"(On their next game against Trinbago Knight Riders) It will be a big game. For me, every game is a big game. We are not taking anyone for granted. Todav was a perfect example. Very excited and looking forward to the challenge."
