Steve Smith started very slow in his innings, took attack to bowlers after getting set
Smith started very slow in his innings, but once he had his eye on it, he made sure that he hit the bowlers all over the park. The premier batter oozed his class with the bat and hardly put a foot wrong in his innings once he was set after a shaky start.

Smith, when he was on 95, attempted to get to his century in style. Jhye Richardson bowled a full toss outside off to which the batter shuffled across a long way and flicked over midwicket. It seemed that the ball would go for a six and the batter would reach his century in style.
But Sam Fanning, who was in deep, came up with the staggering effort. He leapt to his right and the momentum took him over the rope. However, he displayed a magnificent presence of mind and threw it back into play to save four runs in the process.
