Sarfaraz Khan was unfortunately dismissed for a duck in his first international match at his home ground in Mumbai. The 27-year-old middle-order batter got an almost unplayable ball from the left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel and had no answers to it.
The ball turned and bounced after pitching as Sarfaraz tried to defend. But the ball clipped his glove on the way through to the wicketkeeper Tom Blundell. The umpire had no hesitation in raising the finger as Sarfaraz was dismissed for a fourth-ball duck.
During the match, Sarfaraz Khan's father Naushad Khan, and brother Musheer Khan were also in attendance. But they were left disappointed after the dismissal. Sarfaraz, who has an excellent record at Wankhede Stadium, was dismissed without scoring a run.

Sarfaraz Khan's numbers at Wankhede Stadium
Before this match, Sarfaraz Khan had an excellent record on his home ground. The right-hander scored 601 runs in 6 first-class matches at an average of 150 with 2 hundreds and 1 fifty. He has played most of his red-ball cricket on this ground and knows it well.
However, his first international outing at Wankhede turned out to be a nightmare for him. The 27-year-old will look to make a comeback in the second innings of the match.
Sarfaraz Khan's brother Musheer Khan is also an active first-class cricketer and plays for Mumbai. Recently, Musheer impressed everyone in the Under-19 World Cup played earlier this year and also scored a hundred in Duleep Trophy for India A.
Sarfaraz's batting position was also under the scanner in this innings. He came in to bat at No. 8 below the allrounder Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja was sent in earlier to maintain the left-right combination in the middle.
Shubman Gill top-scores for India
India were 204-7 when Sarfaraz Khan was dismissed. Shubman Gill was the next Indian wicket to fall. Gill played a brilliant knock under pressure on a pitch offering turn and bounce to the spinners.
He was dismissed for a well-made 90 off 146 balls and also emerged as India's highest run-scorer of the innings. Washington Sundar arrived after the fall of Sarfaraz's wicket and the allrounder played a whirlwind knock to take India to a lead.
Sundar smashed an unbeaten 38 off just 36 balls and struck 4 fours and 2 sixes during his knock. However, Akash Deep's casual effort ensured India were bowled out for 263 in their first innings, thus taking a slender lead of 28 runs.
Earlier in the day, Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill started well and looked to take India past New Zealand's first innings total easily. But Pant's wicket opened the gates for New Zealand and they made full use of it. Pant scored a quickfire 60 off 59 balls.
