The King of Bollywood (Hindi film industry) Shah Rukh Khan is poised to captivate the audience with his upcoming performance at the grand opening ceremony of the Women’s Premier League season 2 later today. The moment got even better when Shah Rukh met the former captain of his KKR franchise – Sourav Ganguly who currently holds the position of Director of Cricket for Delhi Capitals.

On the eve of the inaugural match, the Bollywood icon took time to mingle with players from the Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians.

One particularly remarkable moment featured Shah Rukh Khan striking his signature pose, arms outstretched, alongside none other than Meg Lanning, the esteemed former cricketer from Australia and current captain of the Delhi Capitals. But the excitement didn’t stop there. Making his way to the Mumbai Indians’ camp, Shah Rukh Khan warmly embraced and exchanged greetings with their players, even imparting a famous line from his beloved classic film, “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge,” to Issy Wong.

The Bollywood luminary made it a point to personally greet and connect with each player, leaving stars like Jemimah Rodrigues, Taniya Bhatia, Shafali Varma, and Pooja Vastrakar in awe of his presence. Every player that was present at that moment had a lot of fun but today all friends will become rivals when Delhi Capitals go head-to-head against the Mumbai Indians in the Women’s Premier League 2024 opening match.

Mumbai and Delhi were the 2 standout teams of the inaugural season last year with the latter team securing qualification from the group stages itself while Mumbai had to go through a period of qualification. Both of the teams had 12 points to their name from 8 matches with both of them winning 6 and losing 2 games.

Sourav Ganguly greets Shah Rukh Khan with a warm hug

Perhaps the best moment of the evening came when former India captain and BCCI President Sourav Ganguly met Shah Rukh Khan. Both of them are hands down national icons and also have a connection from the Indian Premier League circuit.

Sourav Ganguly was picked as the marquee player and captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders before the start of the inaugural IPL edition in 2008, the same franchise in which Shah Rukh Khan also holds a stake. The Ganguly-led KKR team had a disappointing first season as they finished 6th in the points table with just 13 points, winning 6 matches and losing 7.

Ganguly was then removed from captaincy from the next season and was also dropped from the playing XI on a number of occasions. He was then released by the KKR before the 2011 IPL mega auction with Sourav Ganguly being bought by the Rising Pune Super Giants.

The Prince of Kolkata then retired from IPL the following season before taking over administrative roles with the BCCI. Meanwhile, after many years when Shah Rukh Khan met Sourav Ganguly, there was nothing but admiration between the two as they greeted each other with warm hugs and gave fans a moment to savor.
