Pakistan star Shaheen Afridi has further enhanced his reputation of one of the best pacers in the world by delivering a sensational performance for the Welsh Fire against Manchester Originals in the ongoing The Hundred.
The clash at the Sophia Gardens was marred by rain and was reduced to 40 balls per side. Batting first, Welsh Fire scored 94 for 3 in 40 balls thanks to their opener Luke Wells’ whirlwind knock. The opening batsman smashed a stunning 57 from 23 balls with the help of 7 fours and 3 sixes. The only other batter to score in double digits was Glenn Phillips who scored 19 off 12 balls.
Chasing 95 in just 40 balls, Manchester Originals needed a good start. However, it took Shaheen Afridi just two balls to put them firmly on the backfoot. The left-arm pacer announced his arrival in The Hundred in style by taking two wickets with his first two deliveries.
Shaheen Afridi bowled two stunning deliveries to trap Phil Salt and Laurie Evans lbw with the first two balls of the Originals innings.

The Pakistan pace spearhead, however, could not maintain the same momentum in the following deliveries as he ended up conceding 24 runs in his last 8 balls. But it did not stop Welsh Fire from winning their first game in The Hundred since 2021.
Chasing 95, Manchester Originals eventually fell nine runs short of the target. Captain Jos Buttler played an unbeaten knock of 37 runs off just 18 balls but it was not enough to take his team over the finishing line. Max Holden also scored 37 runs off 18 balls.
For Welsh Fire, David Willey and Haris Rauf impressed with the ball too. Willey picked up two wickets and conceded only 17 runs in 10 balls. On the other hand, Rauf could not pick any wicket but conceded only 15 runs in 10 balls.
