Shikhar Dhawan, the India captain for the Sri Lanka tour, was seen talking to the Sri Lankan players post their T20I series, which concluded in the hosts’ favour as they made a comeback win the last two games after losing the first match.

This was Sri Lanka’s first-ever bilateral series win over India, and it was Shikhar Dhawan who had to take that loss. But, this came after the originally second-string outfit was weakened even further due to 9 players being placed in quarantine – 8 were in close contact with Krunal Pandya, who tested positive for the covid-19.

After the hosts registered the series win, they huddled around Shikhar Dhawan, who had played international cricket for a decade now, to learn about his process and experiences.

In the video, the southpaw could be seen teaching the young Lankan cricketers about the aspects they should focus on – such as skill, fitness, and mental preparation – and how to cope with struggling form.

“Both teams played in great spirit. It’s beautiful that we were competitive in the field and respect was there. The SL boys wanted to know what’s my process, I was just sharing my experience. I hope they enjoyed listening to it. And, congratulations to the Sri Lankan team,” revealed Shikhar Dhawan when asked about the interaction with the Sri Lankan players.

Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka would also reveal similar things – the information passed on by Shikhar Dhawan to his players would be key in their growth as international cricketers. Shanaka hailed the Indian opener as “someone who’s mastered even his breathing pattern” and was happy to pick his brains for a while.

“Shikhar is a player who has played [for] 10 years, and has a lot of experience. What he has to say about making game plans, and situation handling is something that’s important for all of us to hear – for me as a captain, and the rest of the team,” Shanaka said.

“He’s someone who’s mastered even his breathing pattern. I thought if we could speak with a player like him, our players would get some sort of knowledge about how to raise our game.

“We get advice from our former players too, but this was a chance to hear from a current player with a lot of experience. I’m grateful to him for that chance,” the Sri Lankan skipper added.
