South Australia‘s Jake Fraser-McGurk has once again grabbed the limelight and this time it’s for a rather bizarre reason. Last month, the right-handed batsman earned recognition from all over the world after smashing the fastest-ever century in white-ball cricket.
He scored the century in just 29 balls during the Marsh Cup match against Tasmania at the Karen Rolton Oval. Jake Fraser-McGurk’s century beat the previous record of 31 balls created by South Africa legend AB de Villiers. Fraser-McGurk had reached his fifty off 18 balls which is also the fastest for an Australian batter in 50-over cricket. He was eventually dismissed for 125 off 38 balls, hitting 10 fours and 13 sixes.
Jake Fraser-McGurk grabs the limelight again:
On Wednesday (November 29), Jake Fraser-McGurk hit the headlines once again for a bizarre incident. The incident took place during the Sheffield Shield clash between South Australia and Victoria at the Adelaide Oval. In the 30th over of the innings, Jake Fraser-McGurk was facing Doug Warren.
On the fifth ball of the over, Warren bowled one well outside the off stump, and the right-handed batsman went for a cut shot. He, however, failed to make good contact with the ball which turned sharply, beat the bat, and went to the fielder at the first slip. The bowler appealed for a caught out and the umpire had no hesitation in raising his finger.
The wicketkeeper, however, looked a bit surprised with the call and was seen talking to the batsman. Jake Fraser-McGurk had no option but to walk away and he started walking towards the dressing room before the drama unfolded. The South Australia batsman was called back as replays showed that he had not made any contact whatsoever with the ball.
The commentators were also taken aback to see the batsman returning to the crease even after being given out. The commentators suggested that the batsman might have returned after being called back by Victoria’s captain. He made the most of the reprieve and went on to score a century.
