The Big Show Glenn Maxwell failed miserably on his return to the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 5th match of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) on Tuesday, March 25.
Glenn Maxwell failed to trouble the scorers and bagged a duck in the ongoing IPL 2025 match against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Glenn Maxwell goes past Rohit Sharma and creates a record for the most ducks in IPL
Maxwell was acquired by Punjab Kings for ₹4.20 crore at the IPL 2025 auction, marking his return to the team. Notably, his price was lower than his previous auction values because of his inconsistent performances of late.
Despite receiving the backing from head coach Ricky Ponting, Maxwell failed and started off his IPL 2025 on a low. He came to bat after the dismissal of Azmatullah Omarzai on the third ball of the 11th over.
Spinner Sai Kishore bowled a flatter ball to Maxwell on stumps and the Aussie all-rounder went for a reverse sweep. He failed to make any connection with the ball, and it hit him on the pads.
As he was caught exactly in front of the stumps, the umpire raised his finger. Maxwell thought he was out and started walking back to the hut. However, he then waited for a while and had a small chat with Shreyas Iyer on whether to use DRS.
Iyer seemed to have advised him against using the DRS, and Maxwell went back to the pavilion in disappointment, bagging a duck. Later, in the replays, the ball tracking showed that the ball was going over the stumps.

Nice to be starting off another edition of the IPL and to a place I am really familiar - Glenn Maxwell
Speaking ahead of the match, Glenn Maxwell expressed his excitement over beginning a new journey in the Indian Premier League with a familiar franchise. He said:
"Nice to be starting off another edition of the IPL and to a place I am really familiar. Even though I suppose the staff has changed over a fair bit since I was here last and really looking forward to start a new journey with them.
"It's a great feeling amongst the group. Preparation has been really good in Chandigarh. Had a camp in Dharamshala as well. There's a feeling of excitement around the group. Hopefully we achieve something really special this year."
Glenn Maxwell was also hopeful of bringing his leadership insights into the PBKS group. He said:
"I'll be hoping to bring some leadership and experience to this line-up and hopefully have a really really strong impact not just with the bat and ball in the field but with some leadership and some help for the young guys. I've tried not to always judge my game with my numbers but how I influence the group around me."
