Punjab Kings (PBKS) booked their place in the Indian Premier League (IPL) final for the first time in 11 years with a five-wicket win over Mumbai Indians (MI) in Qualifier 2. PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer was visibly furious with teammate Shashank Singh after a run-out incident during the chase in Ahmedabad.

Shreyas Iyer delivered a sensational performance at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, June 1. He scored an unbeaten 87 off 41 balls, including five fours and eight sixes. PBKS chased 204 in just 19 overs, becoming the first team in IPL history to chase down a total of over 200 runs against Mumbai Indians.

Shreyas reportedly refused to shake hands with Shashank and said, "Muhn mat lagna tu mere" (Don't talk to me), according to netizens. Shashank didn’t respond to the abuse from his skipper and quietly walked away, his expression reflecting disappointment over the costly mistake.

The incident left fans surprised and speculating about Iyer’s sudden outburst, especially as he is usually known for maintaining his composure on the field.

When Did Shashank Singh Get Run Out by Hardik Pandya?

Shashank Singh was dismissed for just 2 runs in the 17th over. Hardik Pandya executed a direct hit at the non-striker’s end. While it initially appeared that Shashank had made his ground, replays showed he had jogged instead of sprinting and was caught short due to complacency.

The timing of the dismissal was crucial, as Punjab still needed 35 runs from the final 20 balls. Despite the setback, Shreyas Iyer kept Punjab's hopes alive, consistently finding boundaries off Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah.

Iyer launched a brutal assault on left-arm pacer Ashwani Kumar in the 19th over, smashing four sixes and scoring 27 runs. His sensational knock sealed the win and ensured Punjab’s place in the IPL final.

Personally Feel the Job Is Half Done - Shreyas Iyer

At the post-match presentation, Shreyas Iyer expressed his joy over Punjab reaching the IPL 2025 final. Iyer said he wanted to fully enjoy the moment with his teammates and celebrate the achievement in the dressing room. However, Iyer added that the mission wasn’t complete yet. He said after the match:

"I'm just staying in the moment right now, I want to cherish this moment, go out to the dressing room and celebrate with my team that we've reached the final."
