India, led by Shubman Gill, are taking on Roston Chase-led West Indies in the second and final Test match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The home team will be aiming to secure a clean sweep after their innings victory in the seres opener at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad last week.
India skipper Shubman Gill won the toss on Friday, October 10. Gill won his first Test toss win and elected to bat first on a dry pitch. The young batter ended his six-match toss-losing streak, including five toss losses in the Anderson-Tendulkar 2025 series against England and the first Test against the West Indies.
Shubman Gill Wins 1st Toss as India's Test Captain
In a video, Shubman Gill and his team were seen in blue jerseys, engaging in handshakes and interactions with the opposing team and umpires before the match. After Gill made his decision at the toss, head coach Gautam Gambhir was spotted playfully heckling him.
Gill continued to lead an unchanged Indian XI with an eye on a clean sweep. Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul will have an ideal opportunity to make the most of the initial conditions before spinners like Ravindra Jadeja come into action later in the match.

Wicket Looks Good to Bat on Day 1 - Shubman Gill
After winning the toss, Shubman Gill stated that the Day 1 pitch would offer good batting conditions. He emphasized the importance of maintaining consistency and intensity in every match. He also confirmed that India would field an unchanged lineup for the Test.
"We will bat first, the wicket looks good to bat on Day 1. Consistency is the key for us. To be able to repeat performances and to be able to have the same intensity in every match that we play," Gill said.
"Something that we often speak about and that's what we are trying to look for in this test match as well. Honestly, not much. I am still the same person but definitely have more responsibilities now. But I like responsibilities and a very exciting future for me (on being elevated across all formats). We have got the same team."
West Indies Desperate to Break their 20-Year Drought
The West Indies are desperate to break their 20-year drought for a Test victory over India, having endured a dismal run with six defeats in their last seven matches. Head coach Daren Sammy even described the team’s Test decline as “cancer.”
The visitors have recalled pacer Anderson Phillip and wicketkeeper-batter Tevin Imlach in place of Brandon King and Johann Layne. Imlach takes charge behind the stumps while Shai Hope focuses solely on batting.
The West Indies have recorded 13 sub-200 totals in their last 15 Test innings and haven’t batted out 90 overs in any of them. They have managed only two Test wins against India since 2000, their last triumph dating back to 2002, while India remain unbeaten in Delhi Tests since 1987.
