India's vice-captain Shubman Gill took a sensational catch by running back from mid-off to dismiss Harry Brook during the second ODI between India and England in Cuttack. It was a brilliant catch that helped in breaking a fine stand between Joe Root and Harry Brook.

Fast bowler Harshit Rana was bowling with good speeds in this spell. However, he cleverly decided to bowl an off-cutter as Brook decided to give himself room and hit the ball straight down the ground. The batter didn't read the slower ball and mistimed his shot.

As a result, the ball went high in the air and it seemed at one point that Brook would be lucky to survive. However, Shubman Gill sprinted back from mid-off, kept his eyes on the ball, and pulled off a sensational catch with both hands after running backwards.

Harry Brook's unusual innings comes to an end

It was a different style of an innings from Harry Brook as he took his time to plat a long innings. He scored 31 off 52 balls which is quite unusual as he is an aggressive player.

Brook struck 3 fours and 1 six during his knock but was tied down by the Indian bowlers for the most part of his innings. He was unable to rotate the strike consistently which increased the pressure on him, resulting him playing a false shot.

Shubman Gill took another excellent catch to dismiss England's captain Jos Buttler later in the innings. While he had go go backwards in his previous catch, he had to come forward quickly this time. But he ensured to catch the ball cleanly in the end.

Shubman Gill's performance in 1st ODI

Shubman Gill was under pressure coming into this series as there were questions over his form. He wasn't at his best during the Test series in Australia but played a match-winning knock in the first ODI.

With India chasing 249 to win, Gill top-scored with 87 off 96 balls to steer his team to victory. He was chosen the Player of the Match for his brilliance.

Shubman Gill is also India's vice-captain for the upcoming Champions Trophy. He is already seen as India's future captain, especially in the white-ball format. Despite a slow start to his Test career, his numbers in ODIs and T20Is are excellent.
