The 26-year-old Royal Challengers Bangalore Women (RCB-W) spinner Sophie Molineux has looked a class apart in the high-voltage final of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 against Delhi Capitals Women (DC-W) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Sunday, March 17.

Delhi Capitals Women were going all guns blazing after opting to bat first in the summit clash. The opening duo of Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning looked absolutely dominant and they smashed the RCB-W women bowlers all over the park.

At one stage, Delhi Capitals Women looked set to post a total of over 150 runs on the board. However, they faced an awful batting collapse and went from 64/0 to 113/10. Sophie Molineux was the one who started the damage as she produced an epic 3-wicket over to dismiss Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Alice Capsey.

After that, the Delhi Capitals Women just went downhill and they couldn’t score runs at all. After picking 3 wickets in an over, Sophie Molineux wasn’t satisfied as she next produced an amazing throw to run out Delhi Capitals Women player Radha Yadav in the 17th over

On the second ball of the 17th over, Asha Sobhana bowled a back of a length delivery outside off stump and Arundhati Reddy played it towards offside. Radha, who was on the other end, thought there was a run and she without any communication ran for a single. Reddy didn’t leave her crease and forced Radha to run back.

However, the Delhi Capitals Women’s batter wasn’t able to reach the crease as Sophie Molineux produced an incredible direct hit to remove her for 12.

RCB-W Journey In Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024

Royal Challengers Bangalore Women (RCB-W) were terrible in the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) despite having a star-studded line-up. They just won 2 matches in WPL 2023 and ended the season on a disappointing note.

However, they were significantly better in WPL 2024 and finished third on the table with 4 wins in their bag. The Smriti Mandhana-led side started off their campaign with back-to-back victories but then they lost their next two matches. RCB-W won their 5th match of the competition but then again they faced back-to-back losses which put their playoff qualification hopes in jeopardy.

In their final league match, RCB-W stepped up big time and annihilated the defending champions to make their way into the playoffs. The Aussie all-round great Ellyse Perry bowled a historic spell of 6/15 before smashing 40 runs off 38 balls to help her side win by 7 wickets.

The RCB-W were up against the defending champions Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator of the competition. In the high-profile match, the batting unit of the side once again failed but the heroics of Ellyse Perry ( 66 runs off 50 balls) ensured they put up a respectable total on the board – 135/6. Then it was on the bowlers to do the job and they didn’t disappoint as they held their nerves and restricted MI-W to 130/6 to clinch a 5-run victory.
