Australia fast bowler Spencer Johnson clean-bowled Afghanistan wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz with a jaffa in the 10th match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Spencer Johnson removed Rahmanullah Gurbaz as his first victim in a must-win game at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Friday, February 28.
Afghanistan skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi won the toss and opted to bat in the ongoing match. However, the decision backfired for the Afghanistan team against the Australia attack. Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who failed to make an impact with the bat in the first two matches, was dismissed in the first over.

On the fifth ball of the first over, Spencer Johnson dismissed Rahmanullah Gurbaz with a stunning yorker. The delivery swung late at a speed of 140.7 kph. Gurbaz, who was defeated by the pace as well as the late movement, failed to get his bat down in time.
The ball hit the base of the off-stump. The Afghan batter stood in disbelief as his struggles in the tournament continued. He departed for a five-ball duck, leaving Afghanistan at 3/1. It was a perfect start for Australia with the new ball in the must-win game.

Gurbaz has struggled with the bat in the Champions Trophy, managing only 10 and 6 in his last two matches against South Africa and England. It is worth mentioning that he played a 110-run knock against New Zealand in a warm-up game, but his recent dip in form has been disappointing for his team.
Brilliant Piece of Bowling from Spencer Johnson - Michael Carberry
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra, former England batter Michael Carberry said Rahmanullah Gurbaz stood at the crease for too long after his dismissal. He said Spencer Johnson’s delivery was a brilliant piece of bowling, noting that Gurbaz was late in reacting to it.
"I'm not sure why Rahmanullah Gurbaz stood at the crease that long. Brilliant piece of bowling from Spencer Johnson. Gurbaz was late on the delivery. In those situations you've just got to hand it to the bowler," Michael Carberry said, as quoted by BCC.
The Asian team kept their semi-final hopes alive with a narrow eight-run victory over England. Ibrahim Zadran scored 177, while Azmatullah Omarzai took a five-wicket haul in a thrilling last-over finish. Notably, they suffered a 107-run defeat to South Africa in their opening match of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Steve Smith-led Australia made a strong start by successfully chasing the highest total in Champions Trophy history to defeat England by five wickets. Their second match against South Africa was abandoned due to rain.
