Australia National Cricket Team batter Steve Smith stepped up for his team in the third ODI against the England National Cricket Team. The ongoing game of the five-match series between the teams is taking place at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street on Tuesday (24th September).
Steve Smith slammed his first half-century in the ongoing ODI series against England National Cricket Team. The right-hander, who scored 32 runs in the first game and 4 runs in the second game, made sure he made up for the failures in the first two games.
Smith, who walked out to bat at No.4, came to bat when Australia lost two quick wickets. He realized the need to hold one end as he played a great role for his team and ensured that he brought the side innings track and helped them score runs at a crucial juncture.
Smith looked solid at the crease as he hardly put a foot wrong and slammed a magnificent half-century. With the way he was going, he looked all set for a big ton but his stay at the crease was cut short by the brilliance of Brydon Carse, who took a stunner on boundary ropes.
Steve Smith attempted to play a pull shot to the short delivery by Jofra Archer. The batter timed the shot to perfection but Brydon Carse came up with a staggering effort. He ran from a deep backward square leg to his left and, on the knee slide, took it with two hands. The ball was travelling but he made it look easy.

However, after that, the Australia National Cricket Team got some runs in the end, thanks to the vital contributions of Alex Carey. The keeper-batter played a stellar innings of unbeaten 77 runs off 65 balls with the help of 7 fours and 1 six in his innings.
Glenn Maxwell also supported him well with his quickfire 30 runs, which included 5 boundaries. But the real blitz came from the bat of Aaron Hardie. The all-rounder played a brutal cameo, scoring 44 runs off just 26 balls, at a strike rate of around 170 with the help of 3 fours and 2 sixes in his innings.
Based on the vital effort from the lower order, the Australia National Cricket Team posted a total of 304 runs on the board. After they lost 5 quick wickets, it didn't seem that they would go past 300 runs but it was a magnificent effort from the World Champions to go past that.
Jofra Archer picked two wickets for England while Brydon Carse, Jacob Bethell, Will Jacks, and Liam Livingstone bagged one wicket each.
