Ahmed had a big responsibility on his shoulders to provide Bangladesh with a great start as they were defending a small score of 236 runs.

The pacer did exactly that as he was breathing fire in the first over of the innings. He troubled the in-form batter Young with his swing and pace and finished off his brilliant over by rattling Young's stumps on the last ball.

Taskin Ahmed pitched the ball on fourth stump on a length and it nipped in off the deck. The Kiwi batter went for a drive and the ball sneaked between the bat and pad to rattle his stumps. He was dismissed for a 6-ball duck.

After finishing his wicket maiden over, the premier pacer Taskin Ahmed went berserk as he was seen celebrating wildly and roaring like a tiger.

The wicket of Will Young was a big one because he batted exceptionally well in New Zealand's previous match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He played an incredible knock of 107 runs against Pakistan in Karachi and played a key role in his team's dominant victory over the hosts.

How did Bangladesh perform in their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 opener?

Bangladesh began their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign against India in Dubai and they were absolutely decimated by the Rohit Sharma-led side.

Winning the toss and batting first, Bangladesh found themselves in trouble early as Soumya Sarkar, Najmul Hossain Shanto, and Mushfiqur Rahim got dismissed for ducks.

At 35/5, Bangladesh were completely out of the game, but Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali led the rescue charge. Hridoy played one of his finest ODI knocks and stitched up a crucial 154-run partnership with Jaker Ali.

Hridoy was cramping big time, but he hit a century (100 off 118 balls), while Jaker smashed 68 runs. Their partnership frustrated the Indian bowlers and Bangladesh finished with 228 runs on the board.

Defending the total, Bangladesh bowlers were decimated by the Indian openers in the powerplay. Then, Taskin Ahmed dismissed Rohit Sharma for 41, while Rishad Hossain sent Virat Kohli and Axar Patel back.

However, Bangladesh struggled to contain Gill, whose unbeaten 101 helped India complete the chase with ease. Also, Gill was well supported by KL Rahul, who made a good contribution to India's win after being dropped by Jaker Ali.
