The T20 World Cup-winning Indian cricket team met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence on Thursday, July 4, after arriving in New Delhi from Barbados. The Indian team, led by captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid, had breakfast with Narendra Modi at around 11 AM IST.
Team India returned home victorious from the T20 World Cup after a 17-year gap. India defeated South Africa by seven runs in a thrilling final on June 29. The team was stranded in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl, but the BCCI arranged for a chartered Air India Boeing 777 to bring the champions back home.

In a video by ANI, Narendra Modi met and congratulated the T20 World Cup-winning Indian cricket team over breakfast at his residence, 7, Lok Kalyan Marg in Delhi. The Indian team members, head coach Rahul Dravid, and BCCI officials Jay Shah and Roger Binny were seen interacting with Modi in the video.
Narendra Modi posed for photos with the Indian team and the T20 World Cup trophy. During the photo session, the Indian Prime Minister was seen holding the hands of Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid instead of the coveted trophy. These visuals quickly went viral across social media platforms on the internet.
During the meeting, the Indian cricket team wore a special jersey featuring two stars above the BCCI emblem, indicating their two T20 World Cup victories. The jersey also had 'CHAMPIONS' written in bold letters. After the interaction, the Indian team left Modi's residence and was scheduled to fly to Mumbai.

Indian Players To Feature In Open Bus Celebration In Mumbai
The Indian cricket team will have a victory parade from Nariman Point to Wankhede Stadium starting at 4 PM IST. Fans can attend the event for free on a first-come-first-serve basis, with entry through gates 2, 3, and 4. During the celebration, Jay Shah is expected to present the team with an INR 125 crore cheque.
Ajinkya Naik, Secretary of the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA), stated that extensive police deployment has been arranged to ensure the smooth conduct of the open bus celebration in Mumbai. Naik expressed pride and excitement about welcoming the Indian team.
“MCA has made preparations for the public. Under the guidance of Mumbai Police and BCCI, we are going to give free entry to the public on first come first preference...We had a meeting with Mumbai Police yesterday. MCA has kept the maximum police force. It is a proud moment for MCA and the country and we are very excited to welcome the Indian team today..."
Mumbai will host its second open bus celebration since 2007. Rohit Sharma is notable for being the sole player to have participated in both victorious campaigns. Both Rohit and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from T20 cricket following India's win in the T20 World Cup 2024.
