The T20I match between the Netherlands and Nepal in the ongoing tri-series ended in dramatic fashion with not one, but three Super Overs. The Netherlands defeated Nepal in a thrilling game in Glasgow on June 16, and it was the first time in professional cricket that a match required three Super Overs.
The T20I clash between the Netherlands and Nepal ended in a tie after 20 overs, which led to a Super Over to decide the winner. Notably, the Super Over also ended in a tie, forcing a second Super Over, which again failed to produce a result. It was only in the third Super Over that the winner was determined.
Nandan Yadav Forces Super Over with Last-Over Heroics
The Netherlands posted 152/7 after batting first. They were in control for most of Nepal's chase, but the match took a dramatic turn when tailender Nandan Yadav struck two boundaries in the final over, including one off the last ball, to level the scores and force a Super Over.
Nepal batted first in the first Super Over, with Kushal Bhurtel smashing two sixes and a four off Daniel Doram to post 19. The Netherlands responded with Max O'Dowd hitting two sixes and a four of his own to level the scores once again. The tied Super Over pushed the match into a second Super Over.
Zach Lion-Cachet Strikes Twice in Third Super Over to Seal Historic Win
In the second Super Over, the Netherlands scored 18 runs, with sixes from Max O'Dowd and captain Scott Edwards. Nepal once again matched the target, with Rohit Paudel hitting a six and Dipendra Singh Airee adding a six and a four, taking the match into an unprecedented third Super Over.
During the third Super Over, Nepal lost both wickets within four deliveries without scoring. Off-spinner Zach Lion-Cachet claimed both dismissals, leaving the Netherlands with just one run to win.
Michael Levitt sealed the victory by smashing the first ball for six. Lion-Cachet was named Player of the Match for his clutch performance.

Netherlands vs Nepal Becomes First Men’s Match to Enter Third Super Over
Only two matches in recent memory had gone into a second Super Over before the Netherlands–Nepal clash. Punjab Kings (PBKS) secured a victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) during a thrilling encounter in IPL 2020.
Another instance occurred in the third T20I between India and Afghanistan in Bengaluru in 2024, where Ravi Bishnoi helped India seal a 3-0 series win.
The 2019 World Cup final between England and New Zealand was decided on boundary count after both the main game and the Super Over ended in ties, prompting a rule change to allow for additional Super Overs in such cases.
In the tri-series, Nepal are scheduled to face hosts Scotland on June 17. The Netherlands will take on Scotland the next day, June 18. The two sides, Nepal and the Netherlands, will then meet once again in a rematch on June 19, with all matches taking place at the same venue.
