Tilak Varma made his debut for the India National Cricket Team in T20Is on August 3, 2023. He became a permanent member of the India T20I squad for a time, but after that, he lost his place in the line-up.
In the limited opportunities, Tilak had done a good job scoring 389 runs at an average of 32.41 and a best of 55*. However, when he returned to the team for the series against South Africa, the left-handed batter made sure that he delivered his best-ever performance.
After scoring 33 and 20 runs in the first two T20Is against South Africa, Tilak Varma came up with an exceptional performance in the third T20I.
He played attacking cricket from the very start and smashed a half-century off 32 balls. The left-handed batter accelerated further and was in no mood to stop.
He smashed the bowlers all over the park and completed his century off 51 balls in the 19th over.
On the 5th ball of the 19th over, Tilak smashed a ball from Sipamla down the ground for a four to reach the three figures. As the ball went for a boundary, Tilak came in sprinting before removing his helmet and celebrating in delight.
He gave a flying kiss while looking at the Indian dressing room and then celebrated his maiden T20I century in style.

Incredible feeling to get this coming back from injury - Tilak Varma
Speaking to the broadcasters, Tilak said that he was feeling incredible after smashing the century. He said that the pitch was two-paced and challenging at the start, but after that, it settled.
The youngster also talked about his partnership with Abhishek Sharma and expressed his confidence in Indian spinners to defend the total. Notably, India posted a huge total of 219/6 on the board.
"Incredible feeling to get this coming back from injury. The wicket was two-paced, and challenging at the start. After some time it went well. I was holding my shape while playing the shots.
"We both (him and Abhishek Sharma) were under pressure. Today's knocks are important for us. Our spinners are bowling well. 200-210 is what we were looking for and we got it. Hopefully we can defend this," he added.
