During a Super Smash 2023-24 match between Wellington and Central Districts, Wellington fielder Troy Johnson shocked the fans by succeeding in a brilliant tag catch. Johnson put up a brilliant effort at the boundary line to get rid of Districts opener Will Young.
Troy Johnson, who was placed in the mid-on position, showcased an example of brilliant athleticism when he ran backward while chasing down, Will Young‘s lofted drive during the sixth over of the second innings. Young played a chip shot over mid-on, but Johnson was good enough to run backward and catch the ball. The main highlight of the catch was that Johnson was very close to the boundary when he completed the catch.
However, in the end, Troy Johnson was able to comfort himself and was able to throw the ball to his teammate Nick Kelly who at last completed the catch. While both the fielders were convinced that they had completed the catch, the umpires sent the decision upstairs. The replays showed that Johnson’s feet were not in contact with the boundary line when the ball was in his hands and later Will Young was given out as the catch was legal.

Logan van Beek turned out to be the savior for Wellington in the slog overs as he produced some fireworks with the bat and took the team to a competitive first-innings score.
Chasing down the target, Central Districts were able to get through a decent start as openers Will Young and Jack Boyle were able to add 36 runs. Young departed for 7 runs due to the brilliance of Troy Johnson, however, it was not enough for Wellington.
