Rajasthan Royals pacer Tushar Deshpande provided an early breakthrough in Match 59 of IPL 2025 against Punjab Kings at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Sunday, May 18. Deshpande celebrated the wicket of opener Priyansh Arya with a salute gesture as he sent the batter back to the pavilion.

Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer opted to bat first after winning the toss. Fazalhaq Farooqi conceded 11 runs in the first over of the match. However, Tushar Deshpande picked up his first wicket in the second over. Rajasthan Royals showed fighting spirit despite being eliminated from the IPL 2025.

The incident took place on the fifth ball of the second over in the Punjab Kings innings. Priyansh Arya attempted a cover drive off a good-length delivery but mistimed it. Shimron Hetmyer dived to his right to complete a sharp low catch.

Tushar Deshpande Bags Two as PBKS Lose Three Wickets in Just Four Overs

Punjab Kings got off to a shaky start after electing to bat first against Rajasthan Royals. They lost Priyansh Arya's wicket off Tushar Deshpande in the second over. To make matters worse, debutant Mitchell Owen was sent back for a two-ball duck in the very next over by Kwena Maphaka.

The top-order collapse continued in the fourth over, with Deshpande striking again to remove Prabhsimran Singh for 21. At that point, Punjab were struggling at 34/3, having lost three wickets in the space of just four overs.

At the time of writing, PBKS recovered and scored 88 for three wickets after 9 overs. Skipper Shreyas Iyer was unbeaten on 25 rins off 19 balls, while Nehal Wadhera added with 29 off 16, as the duo tried to stabilize the innings.

Wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson is captaining Rajasthan Royals in the ongoing match against Punjab Kings. Samson played his last outing against Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 16, where he retired hurt on unbeaten 31 runs due to an abdominal injury and has since been under close medical supervision.

Earlier in the season, Samson played as an Impact Player in three games while recovering from a finger injury, with Riyan Parag leading the team in his absence. Samson has scored 224 runs in seven games at an average of 37.33 with a strike rate of 143.58, including his best score of 66 off 37 balls.
