Legendary Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah once again turned effective as he went on to draw the first blood for the Indians. The South Africans scored runs quickly as they went past a half-century stand within the first 10 overs of the innings.
India and South Africa are starting their first Test at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Shubman Gill once again lost the toss, and the opposition skipper, Temba Bavuma, opted to bat first against the Indian attack comprising four spinners.
India has Jasprit Bumrah leading the pace attack, with only Mohammed Siraj in the Indian team as the other pacer. They have the likes of Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar as the spinners in the side.
Jasprit Bumrah draws first blood for India with Ryan Rickelton's wicket
Ryan Rickelton opened the innings for the South African side and scored runs regularly. He struck with a strike rate over 100 and even struck Bumrah for a boundary in his 5th over. After they took Proteas past the score of 50, Jasprit Bumrah came back to disturb his Timber.
Jasprit Bumrah steamed in with a 140+ delivery on and around the good length. The ball moved and was lightly off the deck, which beat the outside edge of the batsman, and Rickelton, looking to defend it off, played down the wrong line.
Rickelton was dismissed for just 23 runs after having faced 22 balls in the innings. The 50-run partnership came with less than 60 balls played in the innings.
A moment of pure magic from Jasprit Bumrah! 💙

1 Brings 2 for Jasprit Bumrah: Pacer removes both Indian openers
Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Ryan Rickelton in the 11th over of the game and then came back in the 13th over of the game to send the other Protea opener back into the side. Bumrah bowled a wicket-maiden after dismissing Rickelton.
He came back in the next over and dismissed Aiden Markram off the very first ball. He removed the South African opener with an extra bounce from a short-of-length delivery. The line seemed to be perfect for the batter, as Markram did not expect that coming.
The ball on the fifth stump went on to hit the shoulder of the bat, and Rishabh Pant took a sharp catch diving to his right. Bumrah drew the second blood for India with two absolute pitches of a delivery.
Kuldeep Yadav spins magic at the Eden Gardens; South African captain back in the hut
Temba Bavuma, the South African skipper, marked his return to the longest format of the game with the defending champions. Kuldeep Yadav was introduced into the attack with the South African batter on the crease.
Kuldeep, into his second over, bowled a beautiful looping delivery, nicely tossed up, that spun back into the right-hander, and Bavuma pressed forward in defence. The ball catches the inside edge, and Dhruv Jurel at backward short leg grabbed the chance with ease.
