The recently-concluded match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru witnessed a big controversy due to Digvesh Rathi 'Mankading' Jitesh Sharma.

For those who don't know, Mankading refers to the mode of dismissal in which the bowlers run out non-strikers leaving the crease prior to delivery. In 2019, the IPL witnessed a huge controversy due to the same reason when Ravichandran Ashwin had run out Jos Buttler after the latter wandered out of the crease even before the ball was bowled.

On Tuesday (May 27), Digvesh Rathi also attempted the same against Jitesh Sharma but was left disappointed as the batsman was adjudged not out. The incident took place in the 17th over when the spinner was bowling to Mayank Agarwal with Jitesh standing at the non-striker's end.

Just before releasing the fifth ball of the over, Digvesh Rathi turned back and clipped the stumps. He then appealed for a run-out, and the decision was referred to the third umpire. The replays showed that Jitesh was well outside the crease.

However, the third umpire gave his decision in favour of the batsman because of Rathi's release point. While Rishabh Pant had also asked for the appeal to be withdrawn, Jitesh was not saved because of that. The third umpire adjudged it not out only because Rathi had completed his stride when Jitesh walked out of the crease.

Jitesh was also seen hugging Pant for his gesture to withdraw the appeal. In the meantime, the cameras also caught Virat Kohli reacting furiously to the incident. Standing in the dressing room, Kohli did not shy away from venting his frustration over Rathi's act.

Watch the incident as Digvesh Rathi Mankads Jitesh Sharma:

Talking about the game, Jitesh scored a sensational fifty to power RCB to a 6-wicket win. Chasing 228 runs, RCB crossed the finishing line inside 19 overs. Jitesh smashed an unbeaten 85 runs off just 33 balls with the help of 8 fours and 6 sixes. Kohli also scored a half-century to lay the foundation for the chase. Earlier in the game, Pant's unbeaten century had helped LSG post a daunting total of 227/3.
