One of them retired long ago from professional cricket. But his bond with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) legend Virat Kohli is impeccable. Moments before the IPL 2026 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Virat Kohli was spotted with his friend and former teammate AB de Villiers.

While Virat Kohli is a part of the Gujarat Titans vs Royal Challengers (GT vs RCB) IPL 2026 final match, the former South Africa batter is at the venue as a commentator. Ahead of the match, when players were on the ground for their last-minute preparations, Kohli and Villers were spotted sharing a heartfelt moment. Both were engaged in a friendly chat.

Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers share a special moment on the ground

Despite the pressure of the IPL 2026 final, Virat Kohli was all smiling and explaining something to his friend. Ab de Villiers, too, was with happy vibes on the green field of the largest stadium on the planet.

In 2025, when the Royal Challengers Bengaluru tasted their first trophy-winning moment, AB de Villiers was just outside the playing area, waiting for the long-awaited moment. As soon as the final ball of the IPL 2025 final was delivered, and RCB was crowned as the winner, Virat Kohli leaped in joy along with his buddy AB de Villiers.

For the RCB fans, both of them are legends, and they should be considered as the legends, as during their days, when they used to play together for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, they gifted the cricket fans a lot of memorable partnerships altogether.

Another milestone match for Virat

For Virat Kohli, tonight’s IPL final is another milestone for him. He is the only batter in the league who has scored 9 centuries in the 5 finals he has played. He has created the record for playing straight 19 seasons for one team. The top-order batter has been playing for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru since the inception of the league. In 9 seasons, he has claimed more than 500 runs each.

Virat Kohli – In IPL

  • Played 5 finals
  • Most centuries: 9
  • Most seasons with one team: 19 seasons
  • Scored 500+ runs in a season: 9 times

In this season, ahead of the final match, the batting maestro has accumulated 600 runs in 15 innings, including four 50s and one century. His highest score in this campaign is so far unbeaten, 105. Because of the number of runs in those innings, the opener of RCB has an average of 50.00 along with a strike rate of 164.38.

The momentum is with Bengaluru

RCB fans will love watching another masterclass from the icon tonight, against the Gujarat Titans, to retain the hard-earned trophy they claimed in the previous season, defeating the Punjab Kings in the summit clash.

As of now, RCB is controlling the momentum with the ball in the first innings of the match. With Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood in the front of the paceline, Bengaluru successfully departed the Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharshan early in the innings.
