The rain gods have interrupted and played spoilsport on the first day of the ICC World Test Championship final in Southampton. Indian captain Virat Kohli and New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson were going to go toe to toe to claim the ultimate prize in Test cricket. And Virat Kohli was seen bowling to Rohit Sharma ahead of the decider at the Ageas Bowl.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are undeniably two of the most important men in India’s batting line-up and their chances of winning the final will receive a massive boost if they perform well. The right-handed batsmen would be keen to make a mark at the big stage against New Zealand as they failed gloriously in the previous ICC event against the Kiwis.

Rohit Sharma’s Test career has changed for the better after he began opening the innings in late 2019. The 34-year old has played only one Test in England so far, back in 2014 and managed 34 runs. Nevertheless, at present, Rohit has seven centuries in 38 Tests at 46.7, piling up 2615 runs. It would be interesting to see how he counters the swinging conditions against world-class pacers in England.

On the other hand, Indian captain Virat Kohli has been in decent form of late; however, he has not piled the runs in the volume he is known for. More notably, Virat Kohli has not scored an international hundred since November 2019 and has come close on a few occasions, but he missed it. However, New Zealand would be naive to take him lightly.

Kohli could be unstoppable once he gets his eye in and the determination to win an ICC Trophy for India would be more on this occasion as captain, considering the nation has not won one in eight years. Kohli, who has 7490 runs in 90 Tests so far, has not scored a hundred for a long time; however, a 71st international ton might be on the cards in the final.
