Even the best can find the return to action after a lengthy period unforgiving and Jasprit Bumrah must have realized it on Monday (April 7) when he delivered his first over in the ongoing game between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Wankhede Stadium.

The India pacer had not played a competitive game since the Sydney Test in January this year. He was named in India's preliminary squad for the Champions Trophy but failed to recover in time. Jasprit Bumrah also missed the first four games for Mumbai Indians in the ongoing IPL 2025 before finally joining the squad.

The right-arm pacer finally made his much-awaited return to action on Monday when Mumbai Indians hosted Royal Challengers Bengaluru. After RCB raced away to 33 for 1 in 3 overs, Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya handed the ball to Jasprit Bumrah.

While the star pacer would have been eager to make an instant impact, he was quick to realize that the game can be very unforgiving. On the first ball of his over, Devdutt Padikkal took a single to give the strike to none other than Virat Kohli, arguably the best batsman of this generation.

And Kohli decided to attack Bumrah right from the start to ensure that the pacer did not find his rhythm. On the very first ball he faced from Bumrah, Kohli hit a six to welcome his India teammate in style. It was a shortish delivery that was angled in and Kohli hit the ball over deep midwicket for a maximum.

Talking about the game, RCB were on 85/1 in the eighth over with Kohli and Padikkal going great guns. Kohli was batting on 44 while his younger teammate was unbeaten on 35.

Earlier in the game, RCB were off to a poor start after Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to bowl first. Trent Boult dismissed the in-form Phil Salt for just 4 runs in the very first over to give his team a flying start. However, Kohli and Padikkal were quick to steady the ship and have done a brilliant job so far.
