Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have faced a massive blow in the ongoing game against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Premier batter Virat Kohli got injured during the second innings of the game, which is taking place at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday (2nd April).
The incident happened on the 5th ball of the 12th over when Krunal Pandya was bowling to Sai Sudharsan. The left-arm spinner bowled a quicker delivery around off, to which the batter swept hard and straight to deep mid-wicket.
Virat Kohli, who was stationed there, didn't judge it well as the ball bounced in front of him and skidded across. It went on to hit his fingers before reaching the fence. He looked in immense pain as he was down on his knees, clutching his right hand.

Thankfully for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the injury wasn't that serious as the batter continued staying at the crease. It, overall, wasn't a great game for Virat Kohli as he failed to set the stage on fire with the bat, managing just 7 runs off 6 balls.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru lose their first game of the IPL 2025
Royal Challengers Bengaluru went on to lose their first game of the IPL 2025 as they faced an 8-wicket loss against Gujarat Titans. The hosts were asked to bat first and it wasn't the kind of start they would've wanted as they lost Virat Kohli (7), Devdutt Padikkal (4), Phil Salt (14) and skipper Rajat Patidar (12).
Liam Livingstone (54 and Jitesh Sharma (33) played vital hands to bring Royal Challengers Bengaluru back into the game. In the end, Tim David (32) finished the innings on high as the hosts posted a total of 169 for eight. For Gujarat Titans, Sai Kishore was the pick of the bowlers as he picked two wickets.
Gujarat Titans chased the target petty early even though they lost skipper Shubman Gill early. Jos Buttler (73*), Sai Sudharsan (49) and Sherfane Rutherford (30*) played vital hands as they finished the game with over two overs to spare.
We have set plans for the opposition teams but you can't predict what the pitch is going to do - Liam Livingstone
Liam Livingstone, who played a vital hand in his team, talked about the team's strategy, saying that they had set plans for the opposition. He also highlighted the importance of assessing the conditions quickly. While elaborating on the same, he said:
We have set plans for the opposition teams but you can't predict what the pitch is going to do, I think real skill is being able to assess the conditions as quickly as possible, it helps having people like Hoff (Hazlewood) with the new ball and Virat Kohli with the bat, those guys have a lot of cricket behind them and they are pretty good at assessing conditions, just passing on the message, knowing what we need whether we are batting or bowling.
It is certainly nicer to have them on our team than playing against them, we have some really good experience in our squad, and we have got some young talented boys, but you can't buy experience, our seam attack is experienced, which is what you need in the tournament. We look around that dressing room and you need that trust, when I look around there's certainly no holes in our team. We are confident and like I said, really excited for tonight.
