Virat Kohli has been slammed for being too smart and blamed for Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) five-wicket loss to Punjab Kings in a rain-curtailed Match No. 34 of the ongoing IPL 2025 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday, April 18.
When Punjab Kings needed 39 runs in 31 balls to win the rain-curtailed match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, everything was going well for the hosts, but Virat Kohli’s entry spoiled the party for them, as his unnecessary advice went against his team.
Suyash Sharma was bowling the ninth over, and Nehal Wadhera was looking for the perfect moment to take PBKS over the line, and it was Kohli who played against RCB in Bengaluru. The leg-spinner perfectly started the over by conceding no runs in his first four deliveries against Wadhera.

At that time, the former RCB captain decided to take the reins from the present captain, Rajat Patidar, and messed up things against the PBKS in the rain-curtailed encounter. Virat Kohli approached Suyash and gave some tips, maybe to unsettle the PBKS batter, but his advice backfired.
Actually, on the fifth ball of the ninth over, Suyash tossed it up, and Wadhera turned the noise into stunned silence. He crouched low, pulled out a stunning reverse hit, and sent the ball racing between point and short third for a boundary, shifting the momentum PBKS’ way.
But the real culprit moment was seeing before the next delivery as the former Indian skipper went up to the RCB spinner and suggested something against Wadhera.

How Virat Kohli’s smartness shattered RCB’s hopes against PBKS
After having some chat with Kohli, Suyash delivered a full-length delivery; the PBKS star got right under it, sending it sailing over wide long-on. What began as a promising over for Suyash has completely turned around, bringing the equation now to just 33 needed from 30 balls for PBKS against the RCB.
This put pressure on the leg-spinner, and he ended up giving away 15 runs in his next over after Josh Hazlewood gave only 2 runs in the 10th over.
After RCB lost the game by five wickets to PBKS, fans were furious at Virat Kohli for unnecessarily playing captain, especially when the bowler was doing his job best.

RCB’s home struggles continue, creating an unwanted IPL record
It was Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s third loss of this season from their seven games so far. However, they remained at the fourth spot in the IPL 2025 points table with eight points and a positive net run rate. With this defeat, RCB made an unwanted record in the Indian Premier League.
With 46 losses at their home ground, Bengaluru becomes the team with the most defeats at a single venue in IPL history. Right behind them, the Delhi Capitals have lost 45 games in Delhi. KKR follows with 38 defeats at Eden Gardens. Even the mighty Mumbai Indians have faced 34 losses at the Wankhede Stadium, while Punjab Kings lost 30 matches in Mohali.
Additionally, RCB is the only team yet to win a match on their ground in the ongoing 2025 season. First, they lost to the Gujarat Titans by 8 wickets. Then, Delhi Capitals beat them by 6 wickets. And now, Punjab Kings crushed them by 5 wickets at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
