As Virat Kohli took the field with his Delhi teammates, the atmosphere was electric with loud chants of "Kohli, Kohli" heard from far away. BCCI Directive Brings Virat Kohli Back to Domestic Cricket

Virat Kohli returned to domestic cricket after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) instructed contracted players to participate in domestic matches following India’s 3-1 Border-Gavaskar Trophy defeat to Australia. The ace batter has struggled with consistency in recent years in Test cricket.

Kohli, with over 27,000 international runs, has been a key figure in India's middle order. However, his form in red-ball cricket has declined, with his Test average dropping from 54.97 in 2019 to 30.72 post-2020. His batting average of 23.2 in 2024 is among the lowest for Indian players with at least 10 innings.

Virat Kohli Has Become Ready to Play the Game in Delhi - Aakash Chopra

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, former cricketer Aakash Chopra pointed out that many international players were merely marking their attendance in domestic cricket. Chopra also criticized others for treating first-class cricket as an obligation rather than a genuine opportunity to improve.

"Virat Kohli has become ready to play the game in Delhi at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. He was practicing with Sanjay Bangar earlier in Alibaug. He was trying to solve his back-foot and outside-off problems. So he has tried and now he is back at the Ranji Trophy level," he said.

Virat Kohli was initially expected to play in Delhi’s previous Ranji Trophy 2024-25 match against Saurashtra, but a neck sprain delayed his return. Meanwhile, senior players like Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, and Rishabh Pant participated in the last round of matches.

Before the game against Railways, Kohli trained in Mumbai under the guidance of former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar.
