Former India batter Virender Sehwag took a jab at MS Dhoni’s dismissal during Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) loss to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 2025 season. Virender Sehwag stated that Dhoni could not have saved the five-time champions, adding that the match could have extended to 11:30.

Chennai Super Kings suffered an eight-wicket loss to Kolkata Knight Riders in the 25th match at Chepauk Stadium on Friday, April 11. MS Dhoni returned to lead the franchise in the absence of injured Ruturaj Gaikwad. Dhoni batted at number nine, after Ravichandran Ashwin and Impact Player Deepak Hooda.

If MS Dhoni Didn't Get Out, They Could've Scored 130 - Virender Sehwag

During the post-match show, Virender Sehwag was asked whether MS Dhoni could have rescued CSK’s innings by staying till the end. Virender Sehwag pointed out that even if Dhoni had remained not out, the total might have reached 130 at best.

“I don't think so. If he didn't get out, they could've scored a maximum of 130. KKR chased this target (104) down in 10.1 overs. We would be coming live at 11:30 pm instead. That would've been the only difference,” Virender Sehwag said.

The Super Kings suffered their third consecutive defeat at home. It was also their fifth consecutive loss this season. CSK managed to score only 103/9 — their lowest total ever at Chepauk and the third-lowest score in their overall IPL history.

Chennai Super Kings Restricted to 103 Runs in 20 Overs

MS Dhoni scored just one run off four balls before being dismissed LBW by Sunil Narine in the 16th over. He came to bat at No. 9, which sparked debate about whether he should’ve come in earlier. CSK lost regular wickets throughout the innings and never gained any momentum during the match.

Shivam Dube (31), Vijay Shankar (29), Rahul Tripathi (16), and Devon Conway (12) were the only players to score in double digits. Sunil Narine was the pick of the bowlers for the Knight Riders, picking up three wickets for 13 runs. Varun Chakravarthy and Harshit Rana took two wickets each with the ball.

Kolkata Knight Riders Move to Third Place in Points Table

The Ajinkya Rahane-led team chased down the target in just 10.1 overs. Sunil Narine scored 44 runs off 18 balls, including two boundaries and five sixes. The visiting team scored 71 runs for the loss of 1 wicket in the powerplay. Narine was dismissed in the eighth over, but it didn’t slow them down.

Rinku Singh (15 off 12 balls) sealed the win with a six off Ravindra Jadeja. Quinton de Kock (23) and Ajinkya Rahane (20) chipped in with contributions. The Super Kings are in ninth place with only one win. Meanwhile, KKR moved up to third in the points table with three wins and three losses from six matches.

The MS Dhoni-led team will next take on Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on April 14.
