Waqar Younis Overcomes Childhood Accident to Become Cricketing Legend
Waqar Younis, close to 15 years of age, suffered a tragic accident while swimming with his cousins in a canal in Multan. He attempted to climb through the iron grills that were wet and slippery from water. He lost his balance, and one of his fingers got caught in the bars. The fall also left him with three broken ribs.
Waqar initially did not even realize that he had lost a finger. The sharp pain in his ribs and the sight of blood covering his body made him believe the injuries were elsewhere. It was only when he finally looked at his hand that he discovered what had happened.
The young boy tried to come to terms with the accident. Waqar refused to let the setback end his ambitions. He went on to become one of Pakistan’s greatest fast bowlers, joining forces with Wasim Akram to dominate world cricket during the famous “Two Ws” era.
Wanindu Hasaranga Always Been A Super Star - Charith Asalanka
Speaking after the match, Charith Asalanka stated that the team showed fighting spirit. Asalanka also hailed Wanindu Hasaranga as a superstar in white-ball cricket.
"If you lose 5 wickets before the 10th over, it will be hard. The surface was good. They bowled and fielded really well in the first 8-9 overs. At 57/4 and later 80/5, Pakistan were in real trouble, and that was a positive for us," Asalanka said.
"Even though we only scored 133 runs, the fight and spirit we showed was something to be proud of. He’s (Hasaranga) always been a superstar in white-ball cricket, someone who has done so much for the country and continues to give his best."
