Cricketer-turned-commentator Wasim Akram made a fumble on air during the ongoing second ODI match between Pakistan and Australia in Adelaide. Wasim Akram mistakenly mentioned that Pakistan fast bowler Ihsanullah played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) instead of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Pakistan skipper Mohammad Rizwan won the toss and opted to bowl at the Adelaide Oval on Friday, November 8. The home team looked to dominate Pakistan bowlers, but left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi provided an early breakthrough by dismissing Australian opener Jake Fraser-McGurk in the third over.
Haris Rauf Takes Five-Wicket Haul in Second ODI vs Australia
Matthew Short and Steven Smith added 20 runs off 23 deliveries for the second wicket. Shaheen Afridi produced another breakthrough by removing Short, who scored 19 runs off 15 balls with three boundaries. The Pat Cummins-led team managed to score 59 runs at the end of the powerplay in the game.
Tearaway fast bowler Haris Rauf ran through Australia's middle order in the ongoing match. Haris picked up five wickets for just 29 runs in his first eight overs. Naseem Shah and Mohammad Hasnain secured one wicket each, and the Australia team lost nine wickets for just 146 runs on the board.
Ihsanullah Did Well In The IPL - Wasim Akram
Wasim Akram, who was on the commentary panel, praised Ihsanullah for his skills. However, Wasim mistakenly said that Ihsanullah performed well a couple of years ago in the IPL. This was a fumble, as Ihsanullah is a Pakistani player and is not eligible to play in the IPL due to restrictions on participation.
"We've another bowler Ihsanullah. I think a couple of years ago he did really well in the IPL and impressed every one of us," Wasim Akram said on commentary, as quoted by a user on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Ihsanullah Has Been Out Of Action Since Elbow Injury in 2023
Ihsanullah expressed disappointment over not receiving adequate support following his injury. In a recent interview, he said that he had the potential to become a bowler who could intimidate opposing batters. Ihsanullah said that he was seen as a bowler who could make batsmen feel uneasy in PSL 8.
“In PSL 8, you had found a bowler who the batsmen would be afraid to play, the whole world was talking about it. That someone was me. Even if they were able to play me, they were playing scared,” said the 22-year-old.
Ihsanullah has been out of action since an elbow injury in April 2023, which was reportedly mishandled by the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) medical team. His right elbow wasn’t properly treated, nor did he undergo proper rehabilitation.
Ihsanullah partly took responsibility for not following all medical instructions, but the injury mismanagement was a significant factor in the resignation of former PCB Chief Medical Officer Dr. Sohail Saleem.
