South Africa all-rounder Wiaan Mulder shattered star England batter Joe Root's stumps with a brilliant delivery during the 11th match of the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The group stage match between England and South Africa is taking place at the National Stadium in Karachi on Saturday, March 1.

The Jos Buttler-led team got off to a poor start with the bat after winning the toss in their last match of the ongoing tournament. England lost three wickets for 37 runs inside the powerplay. Left-arm pacer Marco Jansen dismissed openers Ben Duckett, Phil Salt, and No. 3 batter Jamie Smith with the new ball.

On the third ball of the 18th over in England's innings, Wiaan Mulder bowled Joe Root with a scrambled-seam delivery. The England batter missed the delivery on middle stump while attempting a flick. Root failed to make contact with the bat as the ball deflected off his back leg before crashing into the stumps.

Mulder celebrated with a leap and fist pump, while Root walked off by gesturing about the ball’s movement. Root scored 37 off 44 balls, hitting four fours and a six. This dismissal left England in deeper trouble at five down, with both set batters, including Harry Brook, departing in consecutive overs.

You can watch the video of the wicket below:

Joe Root was lucky on a couple of occasions today. Root was dropped when he was on just three runs off Kagiso Rabada's first over. On another occasion, Root attempted a reverse sweep off Keshav Maharaj, but the shot went aerial and landed just short of a forward-diving Kagiso Rabada at backward point.

The English team lost their sixth wicket for just 114 runs on the board. Liam Livingstone was stumped by Heinrich Klaasen while playing a wild slog off Maharaj's bowling. Jamie Overton was the seventh batter to be dismissed. The Three Lions scored 129 for seven wickets in 25.3 overs, with Jos Buttler at the crease.

He Will Be Disappointed to Get Out Like That - Former England Spinner

Former England spinner Vic Marks described Joe Root’s dismissal as a great sight for Wiaan Mulder. He stated that Root attempted to play a full delivery but completely missed it. Marks noted that Root had registered his highest score of the tournament and would be disappointed to get out in such a manner.

"What a great sight for Mulder. The stumps have been destroyed. Root tried to work the full ball and he missed it. Simple as that. He had his top score in the tournament so far and he will be disappointed to get out like that," Vic Marks said on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra.
