Rajasthan Royals (RR) pacer Yudhvir Singh Charak took the scalp of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) opener Sunil Narine in the 53rd match of the IPL 2025 season. The speedster provided the Royals their first breakthrough by dismissing Narine, who had smashed back-to-back boundaries, with a perfect delivery.
Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and chose to bat first at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday, May 4. KKR made two changes to their lineup, bringing in Moeen Ali and Ramandeep Singh. Kunal Rathore replaced Nitish Rana, who has a minor injury. Wanindu Hasaranga and Yudhvir Singh also returned.

Jofra Archer opened the bowling attack for the Royals in the match. The England speedster conceded just a few runs in his first over. However, Sunil Narine smashed the first boundary off the fourth ball of the second over from Yudhvir Singh. The left-handed batter also smashed a six off the subsequent delivery.
After being hit for a boundary and a six, Yudhvir came back smartly with an off-cutter. Narine was too early into the stroke and missed the ball completely. It went on to hit the top of the middle stump. The young fast bowler celebrated with a calm gesture, folding his hands in gratitude after an early wicket.

Sunil Narine Struggles With the Bat in IPL 2025 Season
Sunil Narine has struggled to find a similar rhythm in the 2025 edition. Last season, the aggressive left-handed batter amassed 488 runs in just 14 innings with a staggering strike rate of 180.74, finishing as KKR’s top scorer.
However, this year has been a different story. Narine has looked out of touch, managing only 189 runs across 10 innings at an average of 21 and a strike rate of 170.27. The consistency and impact he brought last season have been missing.
The 36-year-old has continued to deliver with the ball. The seasoned spinner has picked up 10 wickets in nine matches and has maintained an excellent economy rate of 7.69.
Kolkata Knight Riders Still in the Race for the IPL 2025 Playoffs
Kolkata Knight Riders are currently in seventh place with nine points from 10 matches. They are still in the race for the playoffs. On the other hand, RR are out of contention, as they are in eighth place with just six points from 11 games.
KKR kept their playoff hopes alive with a narrow 14-run win over Delhi Capitals in their previous match. Batting first, they posted 204-9, and then restricted DC to 190-4. Sunil Narine was the pick of the bowlers for the Knight Riders, taking 3-29.
Rajasthan suffered a heavy 100-run defeat against Mumbai Indians in their last match. They conceded 217-2 while bowling first and could only manage 117 runs in response.
