South African all-rounder Marizanne Kapp said she is nervous to bowl to her national skipper and spouse Dane van Niekerk in the final game of Women’s Big Bash League 2021.
Kapp, who opens the bowling for Perth Scorchers in this season, got the better of van Niekerk, who opens the batting for Adelaide Strikers, on both occasions of the group stage.
Adelaide Strikers defeated Melbourne Renegades by nine wickets in the Challenger round of WBBL 2021 to set up a meeting in the final with the Scorchers.
Dane van Niekerk is a bit upset with me: Marizanne Kapp
Ahead of the final clash, the South African all-rounder said that she is a bit nervous to bowl to her partner. She also acknowledged that van Niekerk understands her mindset very well.
“I’m a bit nervous that I got her out twice this season and I’m nervous that the third time might be her day. If we bowl first, it’s literally me up against her immediately,” Kapp was quoted as saying by Cricket.com.au.
“Every now and then she’s a bit upset with me, because she’s said previously that people absolutely annihilate her on social media every time I get her out, so she’s not looking forward to that.
“But look, it’s part of the game and we’re used to it. I always tell everyone that it’s never easy playing against Dane because she knows me so well and she knows what I’m thinking and what I’m trying to do,” she added.
Going to try and not get out to Marizanne Kapp: Dane van Niekerk
Talking about the battle, the Adelaide Strikers batter said she will be at her best and won’t throw away her wicket to her South African teammate.
“I know what she bowls, I’ve known this for 12 years, but for some reason I don’t know what she bowls. I’m going to try and not get out to her, that’s the plan,” van Niekerk said on Channel Seven.
“But I know this little person on my shoulder will say, ‘take her on, show her who’s boss’ but it’s probably not going to work,” she added.
The WBBL 2021 final between Perth Scorchers and Adelaide Strikers is on Saturday (November 27) at the Perth Stadium.
