WBBL: Lizelle Lee creates an Unbelievable Record

South African Lizelle Lee created history during the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL 2024-25) match between Hobart Hurricanes and Perth Scorchers. Lizelle Lee recorded the highest score in WBBL history in her side, Hobart Hurricanes’ 72-run victory in match 21 of the Women's Big Bash League.
Hobart Hurricanes were asked to bat first at the SCG in Sydney on Sunday, November 10. The Hurricanes lost two early wickets of Wyatt-Hodge (4 off 9) and Nicola Carey (0) inside three overs. However, Lee added a partnership of 65 balls for the third wicket with Elyse Villani, who scored 14 off 19 balls.
The opening batter then added an unbeaten partnership of 73 runs off 39 balls alongside Heather Graham for the fourth wicket. Graham scored an unbeaten 23 runs off 17 deliveries, including three boundaries. The Hurricanes finished their innings with a massive total of 203-3 in the allotted 20 overs.
Lizelle Lee Becomes First Cricketer to Achieve This Record in WBBL
Lee reached her century in just 51 balls against the Perth bowling attack. She remained unbeaten on 150 runs, with the help of 12 fours and as many sixes. The wicketkeeper-batter recorded the highest individual score in WBBL history, surpassing Grace Harris' previous record of 136*.
Overall, it was the fifth-highest in women’s T20 history and the top score in a Full Member nation. Lucia Taylor (169), Herath Mudiyanselage Deepika Rasangika (161*), Esha Oza (158*), and Maria Castiñeiras (155*) scored more than 150 runs in T20 innings in women's cricket.

The 32-year-old also set a new record in women’s T20 cricket by hitting 12 sixes in her innings, surpassing the previous record of 11 held by Grace Harris.

Lizelle Lee entered the match with a previous highest score of 38 from five WBBL innings this season. She mentioned that not every shot was perfectly timed, but things just went her way. She also credited the support from her team and family for helping her get through a rough patch.
"It's one of those days, I won't say everything came off the middle because it didn't, but things just went my way. Coming through a little dip like that, having the support of the group and family was incredible," she said.
Lee recorded scores of 7, 18, 38, 4, and 4 in her first five WBBL matches. However, her remarkable knock helped the Hobart Hurricanes move to second place on the WBBL points table. The team now has six points from six games, including three wins and three losses.
