The drama around the T20 World Cup 2026 did not end even after India lifted the trophy. A fresh war of words has now started after former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali criticized former pacer Mohammad Amir for his harsh comments on Abhishek Sharma.
It all started during the start of the T20 World Cup 2026 when Mohammad Amir attacked Abhishek Sharma’s batting style and questioned his ability.

Many experts started doubting whether he deserved a place in the playing XI of the India national cricket team. However, the left-handed batter turned the tables on the biggest night of the tournament. The young batter answered all criticism most dramatically.
In the T20 World Cup 2026 final against the New Zealand National Cricket Team, Abhishek played a fierce knock of 52 runs that gave India a powerful start in the title clash. His explosive innings helped India dominate the match and later lift the T20 World Cup trophy.
Basit Ali fires back at Mohammad Amir over Abhishek Sharma's criticism
After India’s record third T20 World Cup glory, Basit Ali openly attacked Mohammad Amir for the comments he made earlier in the tournament against Abhishek Sharma. The former Pakistan batter said that it was wrong to judge a talented player based on a few poor matches.
The former selector and coach has pointed out that every cricketer goes through rough phases, but true class never disappears. He also admitted that players like Abhishek are rare and exciting, and he even said Pakistan would benefit greatly if they had similar fearless batters in their team.
Basit Ali said on a TV show at ARY, "Even if he has scored three ducks, form is temporary, but class is permanent. When people start giving such classy player names, it honestly feels disappointing to me. The kind of names being thrown around… I just wish we had two or three players like him in our country as well.”

Amir’s predictions backfire badly at T20 World Cup 2026
During the tournament, Amir had also made several bold predictions about India’s campaign. He even suggested that India might fail to reach the knockout stage. He had called Abhishek “slogger” by saying, "A player who cannot stop the ball—what else do I call him?”
Amir had even predicted that the Men in Blue would not qualify for the semifinal, and when they made it to the final, he then picked New Zealand as the strong team to lift the trophy. But the Indian team is now the champion side.
They successfully defended their title and became the first side in history to win the T20 World Cup three times. This triumph also marked India’s third ICC trophy in a row after winning the T20 World Cup 2024 and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
