Rahul Dravid is all set to start his new stint with the Indian team as their head coach. His first assignment will be India’s three-match T20I series against New Zealand starting on Wednesday.
Dravid takes over the reins from Ravi Shastri, whose tenure ended at the end of the T20 World Cup.
Indian cricket to start a new era with Rahul Dravid as head coach
Dravid’s reputation in his coaching career got boom with his management of Under-19 players, and he also was the coach of India A teams.
Many players like Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Chahar, Prithvi Shaw and Ruturaj Gaikwad have been the products of Dravid’s hard work.
Dravid comes at a period where the Indian team is in need of a drastic transition in their system after not being able to qualify for the semi-final of ICC T20 World Cup 2021.
Dravid will have a new captain in the shortest format with Rohit Sharma, taking the charge in T20Is against New Zealand.
We can’t expect results from Rahul Dravid from the get-go: Robin Uthappa
Indian batsman Robin Uthappa feels that Rahul Dravid will need his own time and space to settle, and one should not expect immediate results from him.
“Obviously, when Rahul Dravid becomes a coach, expectations tend to rise up automatically. But I think as supporters of the Indian team, we should give him time to settle in and make his space in the team. We can’t expect results from the get-go,” Uthappa told ESPNCrinfo.
“Yes, we have a great team, and results will come our way, but when you’re looking at big tournaments, if he gets one or one and a half year, he will have his time to build a team,” he added.
India will take on New Zealand in the first of the three T20Is on Wednesday at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
