'We're good in our conditions...' - Joe Root drops colossal 'no hiding place' verdict on IND-ENG series

Former England captain Joe Root has said that the Ben Stokes-led team will have no room to hide when they face India in the upcoming five-match Test series. Joe Root, who is a key figure in the England squad, stated that consistency will be crucial for his side to succeed against a strong India team in the series.
The 34-year-old surpassed Alastair Cook last year to become England's highest Test run-scorer. Root led the team to 27 wins in 64 matches before stepping down from the captaincy. England secured only one win in 17 matches in 2021, which included a disappointing Ashes series loss in Australia.
We Are Good in Our Own Conditions - Joe Root
Joe Root is preparing for the tough challenge against India at home. He emphasized that while England perform well in their home conditions, they need consistency and sustained match-winning performances.
"We are good in our own conditions but with India coming over for a five-match series there's no hiding place. It's a long old slog, you've got to be consistent. You've got to put in those match-winning performances time and time again," the former England skipper told Sky Sports.
India Set to Kick Off Their 2025-27 World Test Championship Cycle
India will kick off their 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle with the series against England. The Men in Blue missed out on the WTC final clash following consecutive series losses to New Zealand and Australia. India will look to bounce back. They haven't won a Test series in England since 2007.
India were on the verge of victory during their previous tour of England in 2021-2022. They took a 2-1 lead before the final match was postponed due to COVID-19. England won the fifth Test when the series resumed after nearly a year. The upcoming tour of England will start on June 20 at Headingley in Leeds.
India face several challenges if they are to secure a series win in England. There were doubts about whether Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma would be included in the squad for the England tour, but recent reports indicate that they will be part of the team.
The Champions Trophy Was Disappointing - Joe Root
Joe Root admitted that England didn't play to their potential in the Champions Trophy 2025. He believes the setback offers a chance to reset and move forward as a group, aiming to return to the level of success they experienced between 2015 and 2019, including their World Cup victory in 2019.
“The Champions Trophy was disappointing. We didn’t play anywhere near what we’re capable of but there’s so much talent and so much more to come from that team,” Root said.
“I think it’s a really good opportunity to reset and to move forward again as a group and get back to the heights that we know we’re capable of and where we were in and around that 2015 to 2019 phase (winning the World Cup in 2019),” he added.
