Cricket West Indies (CWI) has officially announced the 15-member ODI squad of the West Indies National Cricket Team for the upcoming series against the Pakistan National Cricket Team.

West Indies and Pakistan recently locked horns in the three-match T20I series, which the home team lost 1-2, handing over the Men In Green a comprehensive win ahead of the Asia Cup 2025.

Romario Shepherd returns to the ODI squad

The three-match ODI series between the Caribbean side and Pakistan is all set to be played at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad. On August 8, the ODI series opener will take place, and it will be followed by the matches on August 10 and 12.

The ODI squad of the West Indies is largely unchanged from the one that locked horns with the English team in May-June. Only Romario Shepherd has come in as a replacement for Alzarri Joseph.

Pacer Alzarri Joseph is being managed properly by CWI, and he has been given an extended rest to continue the workload management program.

Talking about Romario Shepherd, the explosive all-rounder is now back, having missed the ODI matches in England because of his IPL commitments with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), as the playoffs were rescheduled.

With a strong squad in the fray, the West Indies would be looking to register their fourth consecutive ODI series win at home and build a strong core for the next ODI World Cup.

Led by Shai Hope, the Windies squad consists of the likes of Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Evin Lewis, Gudakesh Motie, Sherfane Rutherford, and Jayden Seales, all of whom are capable of single-handedly winning the matches for the Caribbean team.

Pakistan presents a different test - Daren Sammy

In an official statement released by CWI, the Windies head coach Daren Sammy stated that the Men In Green always present a "different Test" and they would look to perform well in the series to achieve their goal of making a direct entry into the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2027. He said:

“Pakistan presents a different test and challenge as we continue our push for automatic qualification for the 2027 World Cup.”

“While qualifying is our immediate goal, maintaining a winning mentality and team cohesion is essential for long-term success.”

Daren Sammy is also looking at the matches against Pakistan as a great opportunity to earn valuable points to climb in the ICC ODI Team Rankings. He said:

“The upcoming matches against teams like Pakistan, who are ranked higher, provide crucial opportunities to earn valuable ranking points to improve our standing ahead of the World Cup.”
