West Indies have announced its T20I and ODI squads for the upcoming white-ball tour of Sri Lanka. The tour will see hosts Sri Lanka and West Indies play a three-match T20I series which will be followed by a three-match ODI series.
The T20I squad is relatively young given some of the star West Indies players like Andre Russell, Nicholas Pooran, Akeal Hosein, and Shimron Hetmyer opting out of the tour citing personal reasons. Rovman Powell will lead the T20I team while Roston Chase will be the new vice-captain.
Meanwhile, the ODI team will be led by Shai Hope. The ODI squad looks young but talented enough to overpower any team on its day. Young wicketkeeper-batter Jewel Andrew has received a maiden call-up into the squad while Sherfane Rutherford and Brandon King also return to the squad.

The Windies T20I squad looks exciting despite missing several key players. It offers the opportunity for the latest CPL stars to make an impression. Seam bowling allrounder Shamar Springer, who was impressive in CPL 2024 has earned a call-up into the T20I squad, along with Trinbago Knight Riders fast bowler Terrance Hinds.
Evin Lewis has earned a recall in both the ODI and T20I squads. Meanwhile, fast bowlers Alzarri Joseph and Shamar Joseph have been selected in both squads. Alzarri Joseph was West Indies T20I captain in T20 World Cup 2024 and has now been named the ODI captain.
Andre Fletcher has earned a recall in the T20I squad after an excellent CPL 2024 campaign for his team St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots. In the absence of Akeal Hosein, Fabian Allen is expected to take the role of a second spinner with Gudakesh Motie being the first choice.
Head coach Daren Sammy believes that it is an opportunity for the younger players to showcase their potential and seem confident in a good showing.
“The tour of Sri Lanka gives us a chance to test our depth and assess players in different situations, especially with several senior players missing out for various reasons, including a need for rest and rehabilitation from injury. We are confident in the squad’s ability to compete strongly against Sri Lanka,” Sammy stated.
The T20I series will be played from October 13 to 17 at Dambulla while the ODI series will be played from October 20 to 26 at Pallekele. It promises to be a great series between two teams who will be aiming to buy a team for the next T20 World Cup.
Meanwhile, both teams have been going through a low time in ODI cricket as both failed to qualify for the Champions Trophy 2025, which will be held next year. It also offers a great opportunity for both teams to gain some confidence.
