Senuran Muthusamy TON TR

South Africa all-rounder Senuran Muthusamy finally got the moment he had been waiting for as he smashed his maiden Test century in style in the ongoing second and final Test against India on Day 2 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.

Senuran Muthusamy reached the milestone with two runs off Mohammed Siraj. The Indian pacer bowled a short delivery outside the off stump, and the Proteas star quickly moved onto his back foot, timed the shot beautifully, and placed it right into the gap near sweeper cover.

A huge smile across his face highlighted his pure relief and pure happiness of reaching that milestone. Inside the dressing room, South African players and support staff clapped loudly and celebrated the all-rounder’s achievement against India.

Senuran Muthusamy and South Africa script rare history in Guwahati Test

With this century, Muthusamy has scripted the history for South Africa. The left-handed batter became only the third South African player to score a Test hundred while batting at No. 7 or lower against India. Before him, only Quinton de Kock, who scored a classy 111 in Visakhapatnam in 2019, and Lance Klusener, who hammered an unbeaten 102 in Cape Town way back in 1997, did the same.

After Muthusamy’s century, Marco Jansen also smashed fifty before the lunch break on Day 2 in Guwahati. With this, South Africa created a rare history against India. For the first time ever, two South African batters from No. 7 or lower scored 50+ runs in the same innings against India.

In fact, in the last 13 years, only one other touring side has managed something similar in India, and that is England when Liam Dawson and Adil Rashid both crossed fifty at Chepauk Stadium in 2016. With this milestone, South Africa’s lower order showed just how strongly they can fight back, even against one of the toughest bowling attacks in world cricket.

Senuran Muthusamy survives twice, puts South Africa in a strong position in Guwahati

The Proteas star has been batting brilliantly and hardly making any errors in Guwahati. However, India had two real chances to dismiss Muthusamy, but luck was on his side, and he is making sure to take his side on the dominant position in the ongoing final Test in Guwahati.

The first opportunity came when the 31-year-old was given out leg-before, but UltraEdge showed a tiny spike that saved him off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling. The second opportunity arrived when Muthusamy tried to play a hook shot against Jasprit Bumrah, but the top edge didn’t carry and dropped safely in front of fine leg.

At the lunch break, South Africa’s current score reads 428/7.
