South Africa pulled off a stunning and unexpected 30-run win at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, turning a rough start into a famous victory against India on Sunday, November 16. India’s tactic to prepare the rank turner badly backfired as they failed to chase down 124 runs, with the game ending on the second session on Day 3.

The Proteas side has made an unbelievable comeback after being bowled out for just 159 on the first day after opting to bat first against India in the two-match Test series opener at the Eden Gardens. Their fightback has completely changed the outcome of the match.

Simon Harmer led the attack with four wickets, and the rest of the bowlers kept India under nonstop pressure at the Eden Gardens. The hosts, who were favorites earlier in the match, fell flat as the turning ball, the unpredictable bounce, and the tight bowling made scoring almost impossible.

Wickets kept falling one after another, and India never settled into the chase. By the second session, the Indian cricket team was bowled out for just 93. With this famous 30-run win, South Africa took a 2-0 lead in the ongoing two-match Test series in India.

Rank turner backfires badly for India

India suffered a shocking batting collapse as they were bowled out for just 93 in just 35 overs. South Africa struck right from the start. Marco Jansen delivered a perfect opening burst, removing Yashasvi Jaiswal for a duck, and KL Rahul followed soon after for just one run, leaving the hosts stunned.

After lunch, Dhruv Jurel and Washington Sundar tried to bring some stability and even attempted to counterattack, but the hope didn’t last long. Jurel, who had started to find some rhythm, fell for 13 as Simon Harmer opened his own demolition act.

Rishabh Pant walked in next but never looked settled. Pant was dismissed for just two runs off 13 balls as Harmer continued to destroy India’s lineup. Ravindra Jadeja tried to stitch a stand with Sundar but could manage only 18.

Fans demand Gautam Gambhir's sacking

Sundar showed great patience and fought hard for his 31 off 92 balls, but Aiden Markram ended his stay and broke India’s last real chance of resistance during their chase.

Harmer claimed his fourth wicket by removing Kuldeep Yadav cheaply, while Keshav Maharaj joined the attack and wrapped up the remaining wickets by removing Axar Patel and Mohammed Siraj, leaving the Eden Gardens crowd in silence on Sunday.

After India’s yet another embarrassing loss, fans have been targeting the Indian head coach, Gautam Gambhir. They have called for Gambhir’s sacking, as the pitch was prepared on his instructions.
