Indian badminton legend PV Sindhu reveals how some simple yet effective words from Virat Kohli drastically changed her mentality and elevated his form. Sindhu was in the lowest state of mind when she approached Virat Kohli.
While speaking on the RCB podcast, Sindhu recalled the incident when a pep talk from the Indian batting legend transformed his perspective about the game. Virat Kohli asked her to stand out head high, keeping trust in her preparations.
He is like my brother: PV Sindhu on Virat Kohli
Addressing Kohli's brother, the two-time Olympic medalist recalled meeting Kohli at the moment when he was at her lowest state of mind. While Sindhu was under immense pressure thinking ‘nothing is happening’, Kohli calmly advised her to ‘just show up’.
“He is like my brother, I must say, because I remember when I was at my lowest. I think I met him and I said, you know, nothing is happening. He just said, Just show up; it is okay, just go out there and just show up,” PV Sindhu mentioned.
Virat Kohli suggested that PV Sindhu keep trust in the preparations
Sindhu is currently competing at the BWF World Championships in New Delhi. The video of PV Sindhu was shared online after his comfortable win against Ireland's Sophia Noble. Within 29 minutes, the former world champion outclassed her opposition by 21-7, 21-11, to move into the Round of 32 of the women’s singles division.
“He asked me to show up, anywhere and for anything, and just play my game. What would happen? You are not going to lose anything; you know what you are, how you have trained, and show the world who you are. So I think it hit me, and I think that conversation completely changed my perspective,” she added.
The words from Kohli’s mouth somehow stuck with Sindhu’s head in a good way. The bolstered mentality was reflected when she was against Ireland's Sophia Noble. Sindhu claimed that since the discussion with the Indian cricket star, there is a friendly bond between them. Sindhu often shares her success story with Virat Kohli.
“Whenever I win, I just share my happiness, saying that you know I have won this or that, and recently I met him, so it is always so good to meet, you know, a person who has achieved so much and to get a few of those inputs from him,” Sindhu said.
Hats off: PV Sindhu showed respect to Virat Kohli
The 31-year-old shuttler observed that what Virat advised him, he actually follows the same approach in his own game. The way Virat plays and returns after dismissal tells everything about the mentality he carries on the ground to this day. With due respect, Sindhu said 'hats off' to the Indian batting great.
“The way he thinks whenever he goes out there, looking at how he shows up and how he plays and what he is, I think hats off to him for whatever he has done,” PV Sindhu continued.
