The heat is on Shimron Hetmyer after a string of underwhelming performances for the Rajasthan Royals in the ongoing IPL 2025, and Manoj Tiwary raised serious questions about the West Indies’ hard-hitter’s role as a finisher. He pointed out how Shimron Hetmyer has failed to deliver in crunch moments.

Despite being trusted in pressure situations, the hard-hitter continues to disappoint the Rajasthan Royals and fans. Shimron Hetmyer has so far amassed 176 runs in 8 games in the IPL 2025. The Rajasthan Royals retained the West Indies batter for INR 11 crore ahead of the mega auction for his aggressive batting and finishing abilities.

Manoj Tiwary questions when Shimron Hetmyer will win a match for the Rajasthan Royals

However, Hetmyer is yet to live up to the expectations, and Manoj Tiwary highlighted how teams can’t always blame captains and coaches when players themselves aren’t standing up in big moments. He stressed that it is time for Hetmyer to prove why he is called the match-winner.

Manoj Tiwary said on Cricbuzz, “When will Shimron Hetmyer win a match? There is only one overseas player from whom Rajasthan hopes that you will win a match because you are their finisher. But as soon as he gets out, he starts jumping. He keeps jumping like this; if he stays for some time, he can easily win the matches. It will sound bad, but you will have to perform.

We keep blaming coaches and captains most of the time. But when will a player raise his hand and say, I am the match winner; I will win you the match? He failed in many close matches this season. So somewhere, something is going wrong.”

Manoj Tiwary slams 'scattered' Rajasthan Royals

In the Super Over, the Rajasthan Royals sent Hetmyer ahead of the in-form batter Nitish Rana, and as expected, the decision backfired badly, as the Delhi Capitals easily won the thriller. And Tiwary pointed out how the team’s strategy looked scattered, especially during the Super Over, saying the poor calls were made, and it is visible to everyone.

Tiwary signed off by saying, “This team seems to be scattered. Because in the last match, the decisions that were being taken in the Super Over, your captain was not in the huddle. You did not send Nitish Rana, who was in the flow. You sent Shimron Hetmyer, who is not getting hit by the ball. Their struggle is visible to everyone.”

RR set to face RCB in the away game on April 24

Notably, Rajasthan Royals had sent Riyan Parag and Yashasvi Jaiswal ahead of Hetmyer in the Super Over, but his poor form didn’t help in any way. During RR’s narrow two-run defeat against the Lucknow Super Giants, Hetmyer again flopped with the bat, as Avesh Khan dismissed him for 12 runs off 7 balls in their latest IPL 2025 clash in Jaipur.

The Royals will now face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 24 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru in their next IPL 2025 game. RCB has so far won four of their seven games in the tournament, while RR has won only two of their eight games so far.
