Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and opted to field first. He talked about the last game, saying that they want to improve as each game passes on. The captain also talked about the conditions before revealing the changes for the side. He said:

"We'll bowl first. There were a lot of positives from the last game. We, as a team, played really well. It is about improving each game. This looks like a good wicket, won't change much. We are batting deep, so that's why we look to bowl first and chase things down. One change - Moeen Ali comes in for Spencer."

CSK skipper MS Dhoni, on the other hand,, mentioned that he wanted to bat because of the conditions getting slow later on. He also opened up about Ruturaj Gaikwad's situation. He also talked about the reason behind the team's losses in the league, mentioning that they have made two changes for this game.
