Delhi wicketkeeper batter Anuj Rawat has come under massive scanner for skipping the state team's camp and attending the IPL team's camp. The left-hander was seen attending the Gujarat Titans camp in Surat and it hasn't gone well with the officials of the DDCA.
Anuj Rawat, who was picked by the Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2025 auction, was supposed to be training with the Delhi team ahead of the next round of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25. Instead, he went to Surat and underwent net sessions with the franchise, who themselves confirmed the development.
Players like Anuj Rawat, Ishant Sharma, Jayant Yadav, Kumar Kushagra, Mahipal Lomror and Arshad Khan have joined the team in the camp - Gujarat Titans
Gujarat Titans released the official statement and said: "Gujarat Titans have commenced their preparations for the IPL 2025 with a training camp in Surat. Players like Anuj Rawat, Ishant Sharma, Jayant Yadav, Kumar Kushagra, Mahipal Lomror and Arshad Khan have joined the team in the camp along with the coaches and support staff."
During the time when the BCCI is taking every step possible to make players focus on red-ball cricket, Rawat's action might bring trouble for him. With the keeper-batter being one of the most exciting talents in the country, he surely will be questioned by the top brass.
I do not know that Anuj has skipped the ongoing Ranji Trophy camp to attend the IPL team's camp - DDCA secretary Ashok Sharma
Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) secretary Ashok Sharma said that he has no knowledge about Anuj Rawat skipping the team's camp for the IPL camp. He pointed out that the batter needed permission but he didn't do that. He also talked about Ishant Sharma joining the IPL camp, saying that the pacer doesn't need permission as he doesn't play in the Ranji Trophy. As quoted by PTI, he said:
"I do not know that Anuj has skipped the ongoing Ranji Trophy camp to attend the IPL team's camp. Ideally, he needs to get permission from the state association. We have two Ranji games left and the camp is on at the Kotla.
"I don't know who gave him the permission to skip the Ranji Trophy camp. Ishant's case is different as he doesn't need DDCA's permission since he doesn't play Ranji Trophy."
I can confirm that we have received no written request from Anuj Rawat - DDCA official
A senior DDCA official also admitted that a few of the players asked for permission to join IPL camps, but Rawat didn't send any mail. He concluded by saying that the young batter shouldn't have joined the IPL camp. He said:
"We have received a few official e-mail requests from certain players asking for permission to join their respective IPL camps but I can confirm that we have received no written request from Anuj Rawat. In that case, he shouldn't have joined the IPL camp."
