"Who Is Mickey Arthur Directing?" Wasim Akram's Final Blow To Pakistan Director Of Cricket

Pakistan was eliminated from the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Saturday after they faced an agonizing defeat against England by 93 runs. England posted a total of 337/9 and in response, Pakistan got bundled for 244. Pakistan had to win the match with a huge improbable margin in order to qualify for the semi-finals but eventually, they lost their match against England.

Former Pakistan Skipper, Wasim Akram lashed out at director Mickey Arthur for his inconsistent role in the team. Mickey Arthur is the Pakistan Team’s director but he is very inconsistent with his role and it seems like he treats it like some sort of part-time job. Mickey Arthur has made some bizarre statements in this World Cup. One of them was that the DJ was not playing Dil Dil Pakistan during the India Vs Pakistan match.

Wasim Akram revealed that the previous chairman of PCB wanted Mickey Arthur onboard and was quite adamant about him. Mickey Arthur was not available as his tenure as Pakistan Cricket’s Head Coach was over. However, he was appointed as the Team’s director but his role is quite uncertain and Wasim Akram pointed this out.

Wasim stated, “The previous chairman was adamant about having him (Mickey Arthur), Now if he is not available then why do you want him? Who’ll ask him? First, tell me if he’s the director of Cricket for the Pakistan Cricket Team or Pakistan Cricket. Who is he directing?”

Wasim Akram talked about how foreign coaches should treat it like a job and the management and board should ensure the amount of leaves that are to be allowed for the coaches and support staff. He was livid with the fact that Mickey Arthur would just join the team when a new tour was about to start and leave the team when the tour ended.

“I’ve been saying this for years even decades that if you like foreign coaches then definitely keep them but it’s a job and he is getting paid handsomely for it. So the holidays or leaves you get in every job, in the corporate world I don’t know what goes on there but the leaves should be given like that.”

“We’ll give you two months of leave in a year in that you can take some now and go or take a month altogether or take a leave for a few weeks. This is not the way that ok whenever a tour ends you go out and whenever a new tour is about to start you rejoin,” added Wasim

Under Mickey Arthur’s direction, Pakistan lost four consecutive matches in a World Cup campaign for the first time including a loss against Afghanistan. They lost to India, Australia, Afghanistan and South Africa. They made a cameo of a comeback with two wins against Bangladesh and New Zealand but the loss against England eliminated them from the competition.
