India’s upcoming white-ball series against Bangladesh is reportedly on the verge of cancellation, leaving uncertainty over the return of senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. While no formal announcement has been made, the signs suggest that the series may not go ahead as planned.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who have already retired from T20Is and Tests, last played for India during their unbeaten campaign at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where India clinched the title by defeating New Zealand in the final.

India are slated to tour Bangladesh for a white-ball series, including three T20Is followed by three ODIs, starting on August 17 in Dhaka. However, the series is likely to be canceled, further delaying the return of the two senior players to international cricket.

BCB Halts Preparations for India Series Amid Strained Diplomatic Ties

According to a report by Cricbuzz, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has paused all preparations for the upcoming white-ball series against India. This comes amid worsening diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The BCB abruptly suspended the sale of media rights for the series. Notably, the bidding process was scheduled to begin with technical bids on July 7, followed by financial bids on July 10. The sudden halt in proceedings has raised strong doubts over the tour’s future.

The BCB had planned to auction its media rights for a two-year period from July 2025 to June 2027. However, with uncertainty surrounding the India series, the board is only selling media rights for the upcoming three-match T20I home series against Pakistan, scheduled from July 17 to 25.

Broadcaster Confirms Postponement of India’s Tour of Bangladesh

An Indian broadcaster revealed that they were informed about the postponement of India’s white-ball series against Bangladesh. The broadcaster stated that the Bangladesh Cricket Board did not issue the Invitation to Tender (ITT) for the India series.

"They have informed us that there is no India series. After announcing the tender, they did not provide the ITT. They are selling, for now, only for the Pakistan series," an Indian broadcaster told Cricbuzz on Thursday.

The Invitation to Tender, which was set to be available for purchase between June 15 and July 6 for a fee of USD 3,000, has now been deferred.

BCB Remains Hopeful of Rescheduling India Series

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have not released an official joint statement. According to a BCB official, the board remains optimistic that the series can be rescheduled for a later date.

"The date for the India series hasn't been fixed yet. They said it's difficult for them to come in August," a BCB official told Cricbuzz.

The Indian government is said to have played a key role in the BCCI’s withdrawal from the proposed tour of Bangladesh. According to reports, officials in New Delhi advised the cricket board against sending the team due to diplomatic tensions between the two countries.

The exit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has reportedly disrupted diplomatic relations. Officials believe that visiting Bangladesh under the current circumstances could pose challenges.
