Jasprit Bumrah rested for MI vs RR IPL 2026 clash
At the toss, Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya cleared everything at the toss and confirmed that Bumrah has been rested for this IPL 2026 match, and they brought Deepak Chahar into the playing XI. Hardik said that it was a tough season for the MI, and they now want to finish on a winning note.
The decision has been taken by the MI team management, keeping in mind how Bumrah has been dealing with fitness and workload issues this season, where he could not manage even 5 wickets.
Hardik Pandya said at the toss as quoted by Cricbuzz: “We will bowl first. It looks like a good track, and it tends to get better in the evening. It's a very special day, overall; the Reliance Foundation has helped and impacted 29 lakh people.
"It’s a privilege to be part of this. Every year we come here, we know this specific game will have the loudest and best atmosphere. We just want to play good cricket for the kids and make sure they leave with some great memories. The pitch looks hard, and it should get better once the sun goes down. It’s been a tough season for us, but we want to finish on a high. Jassi (Jasprit Bumrah) is resting and Deepak Chahar is in.”
Jasprit Bumrah suffers worst IPL season in 11 years
Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah has been one of the biggest match-winners for the Mumbai Indians over the years, but IPL 2026 turned into a very difficult season for the star fast bowler.
Since making his IPL debut in 2013, Bumrah has taken 187 wickets in 158 matches and built a reputation as one of the most dangerous bowlers in the league. But this season, he failed badly.
The Indian pacer managed only four wickets in 13 matches and leaked runs at an economy rate of 8.36. This became the first time in the last 11 years that Bumrah finished an IPL season with single-digit wickets.
The last time he had a similar poor show was back in 2015, when he took only three wickets in four matches. This was also one of the worst economy rates of Bumrah’s IPL career.
