No Rohit Sharma in for the Mumbai Indians (MI) for tonight's match against the Gujarat Titans (GT). Ahead of the match, the ace batter was spotted in net sessions with the bat, but at the toss, it was confirmed that the former MI skipper was not a part of the crucial match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Rohit Sharma sustained a hamstring injury while batting against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Because of the injury, he missed Mumnai’s previous match as well, which was against the Punjab Kings.
Young Danish Malewar has replaced the veteran Rohit Sharma.
Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians have made several bold decisions to take on Shubman Gill’s Gujarat Titans. The team in Blue has handed debut caps to two exciting talents. Krish Bhagat and Danish Malewar are set to make their Indian Premier League debuts with the Mumbai Indians.
Danish Malewar is set to pair up with Quinton de Kock to open the innings, while Krish Bhagat will be responsible for the bowling duties.
MI bowling coach declared Rohit Sharma 'fit.'
Ahead of the GT vs MI match, Mumbai Indians bowling coach Paras Mhambrey informed that the batter did well in the nets. In the pre-match press conference, he provided updates on another injured player, Mitchell Santner. Santner is playing tonight’s match; he replaced the opener, Ryan Rickelton.
“Both are fit. In fact, if you are just walking by the nets out here, if you just look at Rohit Sharma’s batting. So yeah, he is working on it. Santner is fit. So, unfortunately, we missed him (Santner) in the last game, picked up a bug. Not something that we could do. But both are fit, yeah,” Mhambrey told the media.
After his comments, it was assumed that Rohit Sharma could play against GT, at least as an impact substitution. But when the team announced, there was no sign of the ‘Hitman’.
It will be interesting to see how the 5-time IPL winners perform against the Gujarat Titans without the seasoned opener. At the Narendra Modi Stadium, MI has never been able to defeat GT in the past. During the match, eyes will be on the debutants Krish Bhagat and Danish Malewar. To keep the IPL 2026 play-offs dream alive, Mumbai will have to register a cruising win against Gujarat.
